Patna: The monsoon has become active again in Bihar under the influence of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the monsoon trough, with the Meteorological Department warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds across several parts of the state.
For August 31, a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Aurangabad, Kaimur (Bhabhua), Buxar and Rohtas.
A heavy rainfall warning is also in effect for Aurangabad, Gaya and Rohtas on August 30.
Thunderstorms and strong winds likely
Between August 30 and September 2, thunderstorms accompanied by winds of 30–40 km/h are likely across several districts of north-western, south-western, south-central and north-eastern Bihar.
The weather system is expected to keep monsoon activity elevated across the state during this period.
Rain recorded in several districts
Significant rainfall was recorded at isolated locations during the past 24 hours.
Obra in Aurangabad received 82.8 mm of rain, while Birpur in Supaul recorded 82.0 mm. Hasanpur in Samastipur received 70.0 mm and Basantpur in Siwan recorded 67.6 mm.
Strong winds were also reported, with speeds reaching 39 km/h in Araria and Lakhisarai.
Supaul records highest temperature
Despite the renewed rainfall, temperatures remained relatively high in parts of Bihar.
Supaul recorded the highest maximum temperature at 36.8°C during the past 24 hours.
The lowest minimum temperature of 25°C was recorded in Forbesganj and Munger.
Residents advised to take precautions
The Meteorological Department has advised people to exercise caution during thunderstorms and lightning.
Residents should avoid open fields, tall trees and electric poles during lightning activity and move to safe, concrete buildings for shelter.
With thunderstorms and strong winds forecast in several parts of Bihar through September 2, people are advised to remain alert and follow official weather advisories.
