Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for 10 districts of Bihar while forecasting light rain in Patna and four other cities on Wednesday. Although most parts of the state are expected to witness generally stable weather, isolated districts may experience cloudy skies and brief spells of rainfall.
According to the weather department, daytime temperatures are likely to rise by 2°C to 4°C across many parts of the state due to subdued monsoon activity over the next few days.
The IMD has also forecast a fresh spell of heavy rainfall after July 25, particularly in Patna, Samastipur, Vaishali, Bhojpur, Buxar, Jehanabad, and adjoining districts, as monsoon conditions are expected to strengthen once again.
Meanwhile, persistent rainfall in Nepal has caused the Kosi and Gandak rivers to swell, prompting authorities to closely monitor river levels in northern Bihar.
On Tuesday, Khagaria recorded heavy rainfall during the evening, while Patna witnessed light drizzle. Cloud cover prevailed over several districts, including Nalanda and Vaishali, while Sitamarhi and Katihar received rainfall during the morning hours. The maximum temperature in Patna was recorded at 35.2°C.
Rainfall Activity to Remain Limited for Next Few Days
The IMD said widespread rainfall is unlikely across Bihar over the next three to four days. However, isolated districts may continue to receive light rain or drizzle, while most areas are expected to experience cloudy conditions accompanied by humid weather.
Meteorologists said monsoon activity is likely to regain strength during the latter half of the week, increasing the chances of rainfall across several districts.
Forecast for July 22-23
The weather department has predicted continued rainfall activity across many parts of Bihar on July 22 and 23. Districts in north and west Bihar may receive moderate to heavy rainfall, while south and central Bihar are expected to witness light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The anticipated rainfall may lead to a slight drop in maximum temperatures, providing some relief from the prevailing humid conditions.
Patna Weather
Patna is expected to remain under cloudy skies with the possibility of light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds during the day. A marginal decline in temperature is also likely.
Why Is Bihar’s Weather Changing Frequently?
Meteorologists attribute the rapidly changing weather to fluctuations in monsoon activity. At times, moisture-laden winds intensify, leading to cloud formation and rainfall. Once the rain subsides and sunshine returns, the high moisture content in the atmosphere causes humidity levels to rise significantly.
As a result, residents are witnessing multiple weather conditions—from rain to bright sunshine and muggy weather—within the same day.
