Patna: The dry weather in Bihar is set to continue due to westerly winds, though a slight dip of 1 to 3 degrees Celsius in the maximum temperature is expected over the next two days. However, the minimum temperature is not likely to see any significant change, according to the Meteorological Center in Patna. Meanwhile, a western disturbance is expected to remain active in the western Himalayan regions on March 19.

Rainfall Alert for 12 Districts in the Next 24 Hours

In the next 24 hours, light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in East Champaran, West Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Jamui, Banka, Munger, Bhagalpur, and Katihar districts. This forecast has raised concerns among farmers, as the rain may affect the standing wheat crop.

Rain Expected in 13 Districts Between March 21-23

Between March 21 and 23, light rain is also expected in 13 districts across north-east, south-central, and south-east Bihar. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature has seen an upward trend in most parts of the state, including Patna.

Temperature Trends in the Last 24 Hours

Patna recorded a minimum temperature of 23.8°C, while Kishanganj registered the lowest temperature in the state at 16.0°C. Light rainfall was recorded in some areas, with 1.8 mm in Dobhi (Gaya), 1.5 mm in Aurangabad, 0.2 mm in Imamganj (Gaya), and 0.1 mm in Bhagalpur.

The maximum temperature in Patna was 34.6°C, an increase of 1.2°C from the previous day, while the highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded in Buxar at 37.3°C. Most cities, except Sasaram, Arwal, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nalanda, and Banka, saw an increase in daytime temperatures.

Patna and its surrounding areas remained dry due to westerly winds. However, partly cloudy conditions in some places provided slight relief in the evening.

  • Upendra Kushwaha blamed global factors for the rise in commercial gas cylinder prices, saying India has limited control over the situation. He also backed police action on encounters in Bihar, stating law enforcement agencies act as per their judgment and responsibility.

He targeted Mamata Banerjee over her late-night strong room visit, calling it an excuse ahead of defeat, while supporting Samrat Chaudhary efforts on law and order. He dismissed merger rumours and remained silent on his son’s MLC seat question.

  • The Bihar government has introduced a major relief for vehicle owners through the “One-Time Traffic Challan Settlement Scheme-2026”, approved under the leadership of Samrat Chaudhary. Under this scheme, people can now clear pending e-challans by paying only 50% of the total fine amount. The initiative, effective immediately till the end of the 2026–27 financial year, aims to reduce the burden on motorists and simplify the process of clearing long-pending dues.

The scheme covers common violations such as not wearing helmets or seatbelts, using mobile phones while driving, and missing vehicle documents. Authorities say it will not only help reduce court backlogs through settlements in Lok Adalats but also promote better traffic discipline and road safety across Bihar.

  • The Bihar Public Service Commission has introduced a major change in its exam pattern by bringing back the “Option E” system for MCQ papers. Candidates must now select option E if they choose not to attempt a question, as leaving it completely blank will result in a negative marking of one-third marks. The move aims to ensure that every question receives a clear response, making the evaluation process more structured and transparent.

Officials say the revised format will improve discipline and accountability in competitive examinations, encouraging candidates to take clear decisions on each question. The system, which was used earlier and later removed, has now been reintroduced to enhance fairness, reduce confusion, and bring more clarity to the assessment process.

  • Bihar finally gets relief from the scorching heat as rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds sweep across multiple districts 🌧️⚡ Temperatures have dropped significantly, with cloudy skies and intermittent showers bringing much-needed comfort to residents. The IMD has issued a yellow alert, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and winds up to 40 km/h in several parts of the state.

While the changing weather signals active pre-monsoon conditions, it has also caused some disruption—especially for farmers facing crop damage due to strong winds. Authorities advise people to stay cautious during storms as such conditions are likely to continue for the next few days.
