Patna: Bihar is likely to experience hot and humid weather over the next few days as monsoon activity remains weak, with no rainfall alert issued for any district on Tuesday. According to meteorologists, temperatures could rise by up to 3 degrees Celsius, while the weather is expected to remain largely dry until October 3.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in parts of the state remains a concern. The Champaran embankment on the Gandak River breached near Khairatwa village in Bagaha-1 block of West Champaran district at around 8:30 pm on Monday, allowing water to flow towards nearby villages and low-lying areas.

Floodwater has reached National Highway 727, disrupting traffic. The approximately 14-km road connecting Chakhni Rajwatiya to Ratwal, which runs along the embankment, has also been closed.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in East Champaran district on Monday, inspecting areas including Dumariya Ghat, Sangrampur and Areraj by helicopter.

Champaran Embankment Breach: Over 50,000 People Feared at Risk

The embankment breach near Khairatwa occurred following sustained pressure from the Gandak River. Water began spreading rapidly towards residential areas after the breach.

Several villages, including Khairatwa, Pipariya, Singari Garhwa, Rajwatiya, Chakhni, Bargaon, Chhotkipatti, Ekderwa and Dumariya, are feared to be affected.

Local estimates suggest that more than 50,000 people could be affected by the flooding. However, the final extent of the damage and the number of affected households have not yet been confirmed.

Traffic movement on NH-727 has been disrupted, while the closure of the Chakhni Rajwatiya–Ratwal road has affected local connectivity. Administrative officials have reached the spot, and an engineering team has started repair work on a war footing. Authorities are monitoring the situation.

Floods Affect Around 82,000 People in West Champaran and Supaul

According to the state Disaster Management Department, approximately 82,000 people across 23 gram panchayats in 11 blocks of West Champaran and Supaul districts have been directly affected by flooding.

Floodwater has entered dozens of villages across 10 blocks of West Champaran.

Other flood-affected areas across Bihar are also facing disruptions:

  • Bagaha–Valmikinagar Highway: Water reportedly 5–6 feet deep has brought traffic to a standstill.
  • Katra, Muzaffarpur: Water from the Bagmati River has risen over the Bakuchi bridge, cutting off connectivity between 16 panchayats, with a combined population of around two lakh, and the block headquarters.
  • Kataujha, Muzaffarpur: The Bagmati River is flowing 0.90 metres above the danger mark.
  • Jaynagar, Madhubani: The water level of the Kamala River has reached 68.10 metres.
  • Chautham, Khagaria: The Kosi River’s water level has risen by approximately three feet.

Bihar Weather Forecast: No Rain Alert Until October 3

The Meteorological Centre has not issued a rain alert for any district in Bihar for Tuesday. Meteorologists expect generally dry weather to continue in the state, with humidity remaining high.

Rainfall activity is expected to remain weak from September 30 to October 3. The weather is likely to turn dry from October 1, with rising daytime temperatures adding to the discomfort.

Bihar has recorded 31% less rainfall than normal during the current monsoon season so far.

Why Will Humidity Remain High?

Meteorologists have identified three factors contributing to the hot and humid conditions:

1. Weak monsoon activity: Reduced monsoon activity has weakened rain-bearing systems over Bihar. As a result, clouds may remain in the sky without producing significant rainfall.

2. Rising temperatures: Reduced rainfall and increased sunshine are expected to push up daytime temperatures. The combination of higher temperatures and moisture in the air will make conditions feel more humid.

3. Weather systems outside Bihar: An atmospheric circulation is present over eastern Uttar Pradesh, while a weather system is also influencing the northwestern and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal. However, their direct impact on Bihar is expected to remain limited.

Patna Weather Today: Partly Cloudy Skies, Hot and Humid Conditions

Patna is likely to experience generally normal seasonal conditions on Tuesday, with partly cloudy skies and high humidity. Rainfall activity is expected to remain weak.

Daytime temperatures may rise over the next few days, increasing the feeling of heat and humidity. Meteorologists have indicated that the likelihood of rainfall will remain low between September 30 and October 3.

Bay of Bengal Weather System Moving Towards Myanmar

A weather system that developed over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining areas near the Myanmar coast is moving northwestwards.

The system was near the Myanmar coast on the morning of September 28 and crossed the coast by Monday night. It may subsequently move towards the northeastern Bay of Bengal and the Bangladesh coast.

Its impact on Bihar is expected to remain limited in the immediate forecast period.

The situation remains under close watch in flood-affected areas, particularly around the Champaran embankment breach, where the spread of water towards villages and key roads poses a continuing concern.
