Patna: Cold conditions have intensified again across parts of Bihar after rainfall in several districts on Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain in five districts for Thursday, while Patna and many other areas are expected to see largely clear weather with light cloud cover.
As evening sets in, a sharp chill is likely to return, and light drizzle may occur during the night in some pockets. According to the IMD, the maximum temperature across the state is expected to range between 20°C and 24°C, while the minimum may hover between 6°C and 10°C.
Bagaha Sees Heavy Rain, Bhagalpur Coldest
In the last 24 hours, Bagaha recorded heavy rainfall, while Buxar witnessed light drizzle. Morning fog and cloudy conditions were reported in at least 10 districts, including Aurangabad, Bettiah and Supaul. Bhagalpur emerged as the coldest district with a minimum temperature of 7.4°C.
Fog Delays Four Trains
Dense fog disrupted rail services, leading to delays in several long-distance trains:
- Palamu Express (13347): Late by 1 hour 6 minutes
- South Bihar Express (13287): Late by 5 hours 17 minutes
- Magadh Express (20802): Late by 2 hours 55 minutes
- Indore–Patna Express (19313): Late by 1 hour 53 minutes
Why Is Bihar Seeing Rain in Late January?
Weather experts say the unusual rainfall and lingering cold are due to an active western disturbance over North India and moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal. The interaction between westerly and easterly winds has increased atmospheric moisture, leading to cloud formation and scattered rain in parts of the state.
This combination has prevented winter from retreating completely, even toward the end of January.
Will the Cold Intensify Further?
The IMD expects a slight drop in temperatures after the rain, especially in minimum temperatures, which may fall by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius. This will make mornings and nights noticeably colder. However, a severe cold wave is unlikely to return, and only light to moderate cold conditions are expected to persist for a few more days.
Patna Weather Today
In the state capital, rainfall is unlikely, but skies will remain partly cloudy. Mornings and evenings will be chilly, while daytime weather is expected to be pleasant.
Patna’s maximum temperature is likely to stay between 22°C and 24°C, while the minimum may range from 8°C to 10°C.
