Patna: Residents across Bihar are currently experiencing intense heat, with strong afternoon sunshine forcing many people to stay indoors. However, meteorologists have warned that weather conditions are likely to change within the next 24 hours as a system bringing rain and strong winds moves towards the region.
The weather office has issued a yellow alert for March 9, 10 and 11, warning of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour in several districts. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious as the sudden shift in weather could affect daily activities.
According to the forecast, the first phase of the weather change may begin on March 9. Districts including Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Samastipur, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Munger, Banka and Jamui have been placed under a yellow alert between March 9 and 10. Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall are expected in these areas during the period.
In the following phase, from March 10 to 11, districts such as Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar and Saharsa may experience heavier rain along with strong winds reaching 30–40 km per hour. Officials have urged people to remain alert during the warning period, particularly farmers, who have been advised to take precautions to protect standing crops.
Meanwhile, Bihar has recorded a sharp rise in temperatures over the past 24 hours. Data from the weather department shows that Rajgir in Nalanda district recorded the highest temperature in the state at 34.2°C, followed by Valmikinagar at 33.4°C, Patna at 33.2°C, Buxar at 33.1°C and Motihari at 33°C.
Weather experts said the temperatures are around five to six degrees higher than normal for this time of year, making the expected rainfall and thunderstorms a significant shift in the current weather pattern across the state.
