Motihari: A man has been arrested in Bihar’s Motihari district after allegedly killing his wife with an axe in a fit of rage over her suspected extramarital affair, according to police.
The incident occurred in Jhakhra village, under the Pipra Kothi police station, where the woman, identified as Malti Devi, 30, was reportedly attacked by her husband, Subodh Majhi. The couple had been married for seven years and had a five-year-old son.
According to police reports, Subodh had been visiting his in-laws’ home in Khedalpura village, Dumariya Ghat area, where Malti had been living since their marriage. During his stay, he allegedly saw his wife in a compromising position with another man, which is believed to have triggered the attack.
After allegedly killing her, Subodh fled the scene. Police launched a swift operation, and within two hours, officers from the Pipra Kothi police station, led by SHO Dhananjay Kumar and Sadar DSP Jitesh Pandey, arrested the accused in Bankat, under Mufassil police station limits. The axe believed to have been used in the crime was also recovered.
Confirming the arrest, East Champaran SP Swarn Prabhat said the accused has confessed to the crime. The woman’s body has been sent for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
