Patna: Dr. Prem Kumar, Bihar’s Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, reviewed the progress of the Nagar Van/Nagar Vatika scheme during a meeting on Saturday. The initiative aims to develop forest and government non-forest lands in urban areas into lush green spaces, promoting ecological balance and community well-being.
Under the scheme, available land within a 5-km radius of municipal corporations, councils, and panchayats is earmarked for development. Nagar Van projects can span 10 to 50 hectares, while Nagar Vatika projects range from 2 to 10 hectares. The aim is to provide local residents with scenic environments and cleaner air while enhancing the green cover in urban areas.
Key Highlights of the Scheme:
- Completed Projects: Six green spaces have already been developed across five districts—Gaya, Bhagalpur, Banka, Rohtas, and Gopalganj—at a cost of ₹421.60 lakh.
- Prominent Sites: These include Brahmayoni Hill in Gaya, Jai Prakash Udyan in Bhagalpur, Supaha in Banka, Thawe in Gopalganj, and Shaheed Sanjay Singh Park and Dehri Annie Cut Park in Rohtas.
Dr. Prem Kumar emphasized the transformative impact of these projects, stating, “The development of Nagar Van and Nagar Vatika will not only expand the green cover of these districts but also serve as oxygen banks for local communities. These spaces will be centers of natural beauty, offering a tranquil environment enhanced by the chirping of birds.”
