Bihar’s Kosi River to Span India’s Longest Bridge by December 2025

Patna: A monumental infrastructure project is nearing completion in Bihar, with the country’s longest bridge spanning the Kosi River set to open to traffic by December 2025. The 10.02-kilometer bridge, connecting Bheja in Madhubani district and Bakour in Supaul district, promises to revolutionize travel in the region.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Road Construction Department Minister Vijay Sinha recently shared the update via his social media, highlighting the significance of this Bharatmala project. Constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1200 crore, the bridge will shorten the distance between Madhubani and Supaul by a substantial 30 kilometers.
Currently, commuters traveling between the two districts must navigate a longer route through Kishanpur and Saraigarh on NH 57. The new bridge will provide a direct and efficient connection, significantly reducing travel time and improving connectivity. Furthermore, the bridge is expected to facilitate smoother movement to Nepal and the northeastern states, boosting regional trade and commerce.
The impressive structure will feature 171 pillars and 70 spans, showcasing engineering prowess. The project also encompasses the construction of two large underpasses, four culverts, six bus stops, and a toll plaza. A 3.1-kilometer approach road will further extend the total length of the project to 13.3 kilometers.
With construction in its final stages, the bridge’s completion will mark a significant milestone in Bihar’s infrastructure development. This project is poised to enhance connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and provide a much-needed boost to the region’s transportation network.
