Patna : Concerns over a potential outbreak of bird flu have escalated in Patna following the mysterious death of thousands of chickens at a poultry farm in the city. The panic has deepened with reports of suspicious crow deaths, prompting authorities to issue an alert and increase surveillance.
The alarming incident occurred in Marcha village, located in the Marchi Panchayat under the Bypass police station area of the city. Vinod Singh, a poultry farm operator who has been in the business for 15 years, reported that around 2,500 chickens have died so far. Singh, who had expanded his business with the help of a loan, now faces devastating financial losses due to the sudden deaths. Tests conducted by veterinary officials confirmed the presence of bird flu, heightening concerns of an outbreak.
Panic Among Poultry Farmers
The large-scale deaths have created an atmosphere of anxiety among poultry farmers and residents alike. Many fear that the virus could spread to other areas, further endangering public health and livelihoods. In response, the local administration has stepped up vigilance, increasing inspections of poultry farms and monitoring the situation closely. The health department has issued instructions to implement precautionary measures and prevent further spread of the infection.
Recent Cases of Bird Flu in Bihar
This is not the first instance of bird flu in Bihar this year. On February 18, multiple crows were found dead in Jehanabad district, with subsequent testing by the Kolkata-based Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RDDL) confirming the presence of the H5N1 virus.

Following confirmation of bird flu in the poultry farm, the administration has intensified monitoring in the affected area. Efforts are underway to prevent the virus from spreading to neighboring regions. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines.
