Munger: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for Munger and Tarapur assembly constituencies, playing the Vaishya community card in Munger while reposing faith in Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary for Tarapur.
In Munger, the party has dropped sitting MLA Pranav Kumar and nominated Kumar Pranay, a former district president and a close aide of Samrat Choudhary. Party insiders say the move reflects a deliberate attempt to woo the influential Vaishya electorate.
According to BJP sources, the decision also stems from lessons learned in 2009, when the party denied a ticket to Vaishya leader Vishwanath Prasad Gupta, leading to his victory under the RJD banner after being fielded by Lalu Prasad Yadav. The BJP’s current selection aims to avoid a repeat of that strategic setback.
Party officials have said that the changes mark the beginning of an aggressive campaign strategy as the BJP seeks to reclaim power in Bihar by winning a greater share of seats in the 2025 Assembly elections.
