Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Abhishek Kumar as its candidate from the Bankipur assembly constituency for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, placing a young party organiser in the contest for one of Patna’s most prominent seats.
A former state vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Abhishek Kumar has held several organisational positions within the BJP and has been associated with the party’s youth wing for many years.
Focus On Young Leadership
By nominating Abhishek Kumar from Bankipur, the BJP has signalled its emphasis on promoting younger leaders with organisational experience.
He began his political career in the BJP as a Mandal president and went on to serve as Patna Metropolitan BJYM president before becoming the BJYM’s state vice-president.
During his tenure in the organisation, he also served as Mandal secretary and general secretary, and was involved in youth outreach, organisational activities and party programmes.

Electoral Significance
Political observers say the nomination is significant given the electoral profile of the Bankipur constituency.
Abhishek Kumar belongs to the Kayastha community, which has a sizeable presence in the constituency. Analysts believe the BJP’s decision is aimed at strengthening its appeal among both young voters and the Kayastha community ahead of the election.

A resident of the Boring Road area of Patna, Abhishek Kumar now enters electoral politics after holding a series of organisational responsibilities within the BJP, with the Bankipur nomination marking the next stage of his political career.
