Patna: Bihar has received a significant boost in the Union Budget 2025-26, with multiple projects and financial allocations aimed at the state, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain has said.
Reacting to the budget presented by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Shahnawaz described it as “historic” and “dedicated to Bihar”. He claimed the allocations demonstrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the state’s development.
“This budget has once again proved that Prime Minister Narendra Modi loves Bihar and its people,” Shahnawaz said. “It provides a roadmap not only for a developed India but also for a developed Bihar.”
Among the key announcements for Bihar, he highlighted the creation of a Makhana Board to support farmers involved in production, processing and marketing. Additionally, a Greenfield international airport has been proposed, alongside the expansion of Patna and Bihta airports to enhance air connectivity.
The budget has also allocated financial assistance for the Western Kosi Canal Project, which, Shahnawaz said, was a “special gift to Mithila from Prime Minister Narendra Modi”. The project is expected to benefit farmers cultivating 50,000 hectares of land.
Further, a National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management is set to be established in Bihar to promote food processing industries in the eastern region. The expansion of IIT Patna was also announced, a move welcomed as a step towards improving higher education in the state.
Shahnawaz claimed that the budget would create employment opportunities and lead to economic growth for farmers, the middle class and the youth.
He also praised Sitharaman for presenting the budget wearing a saree featuring Mithila paintings, which was gifted to her by Padma Shri awardee Dulari Devi. “This reflects how much the finance minister respects Bihar and its people,” he said.
Shahnawaz concluded by expressing gratitude to Modi and Sitharaman for prioritising Bihar in the budget, saying that the state had been “showered with gifts”.
