Bodh Mahotsav: Traffic Diversions and Parking Curbs Announced in Bodh Gaya for 3 Days

Authorities in Bodh Gaya have rolled out an extensive traffic plan, including vehicle bans and designated parking zones, to manage crowds during a three-day Buddhist festival beginning January 22.

Bodh Gaya: The district administration in Bodh Gaya has announced a detailed traffic management plan ahead of three-day Bodh Mahotsav scheduled to begin Thursday, imposing vehicle restrictions and diversions around key religious and public spaces.

According to officials, from January 22 to January 24, when programmes are held at the Mahabodhi Mahavihara, the Kalachakra grounds or nearby areas, the entry of all vehicles will be prohibited from Embassy Chowk and Verma Chowk. Access to the Mahabodhi Temple from these points will be allowed only to vehicles with valid passes.

🚫 Traffic Restrictions

  • ❌ No vehicle entry from Embassy Chowk & Verma Chowk towards Mahabodhi Temple without a pass
  • 🚌 Heavy vehicles banned towards Mahabodhi Temple & Kalachakra Grounds
  • 🚛 Large vehicles not allowed from Rajapur Chowk to South Bodh Gaya
  • 🔄 Small vehicles & bikes to follow diversions via Sujata Bypass / Rajapur
  • 🚧 Multiple barricades & drop gates installed near temple, monasteries & Kalachakra gates

🅿️ Parking Guidelines

  • 🚫 No roadside parking between Embassy Chowk & Verma Chowk
  • ✅ Park only in designated parking zones
  • 📍 Parking available at:
    • Node-1 (South Parking)
    • Magadh University Campus
    • Near Children’s Park
    • Node-02
    • Mousa Chowk
    • 🟡 VIP/Govt vehicles: vacant land opposite Gate No. 2, Kalachakra Grounds

🔀 Alternative Routes for Devotees

  • ➡️ Embassy Chowk → Miyan Bigha → Gate No. 8 (Kalachakra Grounds)
  • ➡️ Node-1 → Teregar Monastery Chowk → Gate No. 9

The administration has appealed to residents, pilgrims and visitors to follow the traffic advisory and cooperate with police personnel deployed across the town to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival.

  • Two separate chain-snatching incidents were reported in Patna on Wednesday morning, with CCTV footage showing a woman allegedly snatching gold chains while riding pillion on a motorcycle.

In the first incident, a gold chain was allegedly snatched from a Building Construction Department contractor in the Gardanibagh police station area while he was returning home after a morning walk. The second incident reportedly took place at Digha Bazaar, where a young man’s gold chain was allegedly snatched while he was standing on the road.

Police are examining CCTV footage and searching for the motorcycle-borne man and the woman allegedly involved in both incidents.
