Bhagalpur: Authorities in Bhagalpur were placed on high alert Today after a bomb threat was received against the district’s Collectorate, the region’s principal administrative office. The threat, reportedly sent via email, claimed that an explosive device had been planted inside the premises and could detonate imminently.
The warning follows a spate of similar threats to government offices and courts across Bihar in recent weeks. Officials evacuated the Collectorate immediately, sealing off the area while police and security teams conducted a meticulous search of the complex.
A bomb disposal squad, accompanied by sniffer dogs, combed through files, vehicles, and the surrounding grounds. Senior officers, including the district’s DSP Traffic and DSP Urban Area, oversaw the operation. “All entrances have been closed and every individual entering or leaving the premises is being thoroughly checked,” a senior official said.
The Bhagalpur cyber cell is investigating the origin of the email, tracking the IP address and attempting to identify the sender. While authorities suspect the threat may be a hoax, security measures are being strictly enforced.
The district administration has appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours, emphasising that CCTV footage is being reviewed for any suspicious activity. Police warned that anyone circulating false information to create panic could face legal action.
The search operation remains ongoing, and authorities have pledged to maintain vigilance until the complex is declared completely secure.
