Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police has arrested a Technical Assistant employed at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai in connection with the alleged irregularities in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Assistant Education Development Officer (AEDO) recruitment examination.

The accused, identified as Roshan Kumar, a resident of Kakariya village under Noorsarai police station in Nalanda district, was arrested from the BARC campus in Trombay, Mumbai, on August 3. Officials said he is being brought to Patna on transit remand for further questioning after the completion of legal formalities.

Arrest Follows Investigation Into Exam Irregularities

According to the EOU, the investigation was initiated after complaints of irregularities during the AEDO recruitment examination conducted in April 2026.

Officials said Roshan Kumar’s alleged involvement emerged through technical evidence and human intelligence gathered during the investigation. A three-member special investigation team, led by an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), travelled to Mumbai to carry out the arrest.

Alleged Use of Fake Identity at Examination Centre

The EOU alleges that Roshan Kumar entered the PL Sahu High School examination centre in Sohsarai, Nalanda, on April 17, 2026, by posing as a member of the technical team responsible for installing mobile jammers at the venue.

Investigators claim he wore clothing similar to that of the jammer company’s staff, allowing him to move inside the examination centre without raising suspicion. The agency believes the operation was planned in advance and is examining his precise role in the alleged fraud.

Probe Focuses on Organised Recruitment Fraud

Investigators are examining whether the accused acted independently or was part of an organised network involved in recruitment examination manipulation.

The EOU said it is investigating possible links to solver gangs, brokers or organised examination fraud syndicates. Officials added that further arrests could follow based on information obtained during interrogation.

An EOU official said preparations are underway to produce the accused before a court in Patna while investigators continue to trace the wider network behind the alleged recruitment scam.

Four-Stage Modus Operandi Under Investigation

According to investigators, the alleged fraud involved multiple stages. The EOU suspects the genuine candidate’s admit card was first obtained before the accused entered the examination centre by impersonating a technical staff member.

Officials allege he then appeared for the examination in place of another candidate, while the operation was coordinated by other individuals outside the centre. Investigators are examining the possible involvement of additional suspects.

Search Leads to Recovery of Answer Slips

During searches conducted as part of the investigation, officials recovered handwritten slips containing answers from some candidates, according to the EOU.

The agency said the recoveries indicate that the alleged malpractice may have involved multiple individuals rather than an isolated act. Several suspects have been detained and are being questioned.

BARC Employment Under Scrutiny

Sources said Roshan Kumar joined BARC as a Technical Assistant in 2025 and was undergoing training at the institution at the time of his arrest.

Investigators said the alleged involvement of an employee associated with a central government scientific institution has added to the seriousness of the case, although the allegations against the accused remain under investigation.

Wider Network Being Investigated

The EOU suspects the alleged recruitment fraud network may extend beyond Nalanda district and is examining whether similar operations were active elsewhere in Bihar during the AEDO recruitment process.

Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and that action will be taken against all individuals found to be involved based on evidence collected during the probe.
