Patna: A major change has been introduced to Bihar’s teacher recruitment process, with candidates now required to select all 38 districts as part of their application or risk disqualification.
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) is expected to release the notification for the fourth phase of the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) shortly, incorporating a series of procedural revisions. Among the most significant is the shift to district-wise vacancy allocation, with postings to be determined strictly on merit.
Under the revised system, applicants will no longer be limited to choosing a handful of preferred locations. Instead, they must indicate their preferences across all districts in the state. Officials have warned that failure to do so could result in candidates being excluded entirely from the selection process.
The commission said district allocation would be based solely on candidates’ positions in the merit list, alongside the applicable reservation roster. Vacancies will be filled in accordance with district-specific requirements, with no deviation from established reservation norms.
The changes also include the scrapping of the earlier alphabet-based district allocation system. Authorities said the move was intended to reduce administrative complications, particularly those related to transfers. Candidates appointed under the new system will be expected to serve in their allotted districts, with no immediate provision for transfer.
The overhaul follows discussions between the state education department and the commission, where consensus was reached on implementing the revised framework.
According to Rajesh Kumar Singh, the examination controller, the recruitment drive will cover 46,882 posts across multiple departments, including education, minority welfare, and scheduled castes and scheduled tribes welfare. The application process is expected to begin after April 25.
Singh cautioned that limiting district preferences could disadvantage candidates. “If a candidate qualifies for a district they have not selected, they will not be considered for allocation,” he said.
Applicants have therefore been advised to carefully complete their forms and include all districts to maximise their chances of appointment.
