Patna: The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) recently faced a unique challenge when it had to withdraw a vacancy for the post of Director-cum-State Fire Officer due to the lack of qualified candidates. The recruitment, advertised in March-April 2024 for a post under Bihar Fire Service, Home Department (Police Branch), Bihar, failed to attract a single eligible candidate. According to BPSC, the prescribed qualifications and conditions could not be met by any applicant.
The post required a minimum of 20 years of experience, along with specific educational qualifications. Applicants were expected to hold a graduation degree in Science, Fire Engineering, or Engineering in Mechanical/Automobile disciplines. Additionally, they needed to have completed the Divisional Officer Course from the National Fire College, Nagpur, or a minimum of three months of senior supervisory officer training from a Central Government-recognized institute. Despite these efforts, no suitable candidate was found.
Interestingly, the recruitment did not even require a written examination for the single post, yet no one met the stringent criteria. As a result, BPSC officially announced the withdrawal of the vacancy, stating their inability to find a qualified applicant.
This incident highlights the paradoxical situation of both job availability and unemployment in Bihar. While vacancies exist, the lack of qualified candidates presents a significant challenge for recruitment in specialized fields.
The search for a Director-cum-State Fire Officer remains unfulfilled, underlining the need to address gaps in professional qualifications and skill development to meet such specialized requirements.
