Patna: Bihar’s top power sector officials undertook a high-level review of the State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) on Tuesday, in what is being described as a significant step towards strengthening the state’s electricity management and grid stability.
Manoj Kumar Singh, chairperson-cum-managing director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL), and Rahul Kumar, managing director of Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited (BSPTCL), visited the SLDC along with senior officials to assess its functioning and identify operational gaps. The centre is considered the “nerve centre” of the state’s power grid, responsible for real-time monitoring, scheduling and despatch of electricity.
During the review, the officials examined several core functions of the SLDC, including load forecasting, grid discipline, and compliance with grid codes. They also reviewed coordination mechanisms between generation companies, transmission utilities and national and regional despatch centres.

Among the key areas discussed were optimum scheduling and despatch of power in accordance with contracts, supervision of the intra-state transmission network, accuracy in accounting for energy transmitted through the grid, and adherence to state and national grid standards. The team also looked at the SLDC’s real-time monitoring systems and protocols designed to prevent outages and ensure uninterrupted supply.
Speaking after the review, Singh said strengthening SLDC operations was critical to improving Bihar’s power reliability. “Efficient coordination between generation, transmission and despatch is essential for providing reliable and quality power to the people of Bihar,” he said. “Today’s review will help us identify gaps and strengthen our operational protocols.”

Officials said the visit underscores BSPHCL’s wider push for operational excellence and technological upgrades across the state’s power infrastructure. Strengthening the SLDC is expected to improve grid stability, reduce disruptions, and enhance coordination with Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre (ERLDC) and National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC).
The insights from the review will now form the basis for new strategies aimed at enhancing SLDC’s technical capabilities and improving coordination across different wings of Bihar’s power sector. BSPHCL officials said the corporation remains committed to delivering a more robust and reliable power supply across the state.
