Patna: Patna is preparing for the funeral of prominent industrialist Gopal Khemka, whose body will be cremated on Sunday at Gulbi Ghat following the arrival of his daughter Garima Khemka from Scotland.
Khemka, a well-known figure in Bihar’s business community, was shot in the head late on Friday night outside the gate of his apartment near Ramgulam Chowk in the Gandhi Maidan police station area. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
On Saturday, his body was kept at his residence for final respects, drawing a stream of visitors from across Bihar’s political spectrum, with leaders from both the ruling coalition and the opposition meeting the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, the police investigation into the murder has gathered momentum. A suspect was detained on Saturday, and officials indicated the killing was carried out by a professional shooter. Patna’s Special Task Force (STF) has launched extensive raids to track down the assailant.
“Many aspects of the murder have come to light,” Inspector General Jitendra Rana told reporters. “The shooter fired the fatal shot, and there were liaisoners assisting him. We have gathered significant clues about the shooter’s identity and the person who sent him.”
Rana added that the motive behind the killing had almost been established and assured that the culprits would be apprehended soon. “Strictest action will be taken,” he said.
