Patna: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a raid at the Income Tax office in Patna on Tuesday evening in connection with a bribery case. The agency detained two employees for questioning, including an inspector from the investigation wing and a multitasking staff member, sources confirmed.
The raid caused considerable disruption at the office, with staff reportedly unsettled by the sudden presence of the investigative team. Officials at the Income Tax department declined to comment on the nature of the CBI’s action.
While the agency has not issued a formal statement, it is understood that the operation was based on credible intelligence pointing to alleged bribery within the department.
In a separate development, the CBI arrested three officials in Jharkhand in another bribery case. Those arrested include Rakesh Bhasin, a former engineer and current member of the Dispute Resolution Board of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and two deputy managers of the Authority – Swatantra Gaurav and Vishwajit Singh.
The three are accused of accepting over Rs 10 lakh in bribes to favour a private infrastructure company involved in a highway project. The arrests mark yet another instance in a string of recent corruption-related investigations by the central agency.
