Patna: A major rail accident was averted in Bihar’s Saran district on Sunday when a DMU train collided with a bus near the Goriya Chhapra cremation ground on the Chhapra–Varanasi railway section.
The incident occurred between Gautam Sthan and Revelganj Ghat railway stations. According to railway officials, the bus driver was reversing the vehicle when train number 75102, travelling towards Chhapra, struck its rear section.
No casualties were reported as all passengers had already disembarked before the collision. However, the bus sustained significant damage.
Bus Had Brought Villagers for Funeral
Officials said residents of Bajitpur village under Mufassil police station limits had travelled to the Goriya Chhapra Simaria cremation ground for the final rites of a deceased person.
After the passengers got off near the cremation site, the driver allegedly began reversing the bus close to the railway track. At that moment, the approaching DMU train collided with the vehicle.
The train continued its journey after the impact. The incident triggered panic among people present at the spot.
