China Pneumonia Outbreak: Hospitals in Patna on Alert After Centre’s Advisory
Patna: The Government of India has issued a nationwide advisory alerting all states to the emergence of a new virus rapidly spreading among children in China. In response to this advisory, both government and private hospitals in Patna district have been placed on high alert.
As part of the precautionary measures, hospitals have received instructions to make appropriate arrangements and ensure the availability of medicines related to the disease. In the event of a suspected case, immediate investigation and testing will take place, with designated facilities at RMRI and IGIMS for this purpose.
Dr. Shravan Kumar, the Civil Surgeon of Patna district, confirmed the receipt of a letter from the Government of India, conveying crucial information to all healthcare institutions. Hospitals have been directed to remain vigilant and prepared, even though no confirmed cases have been reported as of yet.
The severity of the disease has led to its classification into different categories, including Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI), Influenza-Like Illness (ILI), and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness. Dr. Kumar assured that appropriate arrangements will be made promptly based on the evolving situation.
To address potential outbreaks, additional beds have been allocated for infectious diseases, and testing facilities are available at RMRI and IGIMS. The disease primarily affecting children in China has raised concerns about pneumonia vulnerability, with symptoms resembling those of Covid and pneumonia manifesting after infection.
Notably, Bihar has not reported any cases of the mysterious disease as of now. In China, the illness is causing children to experience high fever and lung swelling, leading to around 7,000 children being admitted to hospitals daily. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the health and well-being of the population.
