Patna: In a significant step towards urban beautification and sustainable development, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to develop neglected parks, construct new public toilets, and build ponds across the city under the Central Government’s Amrit Yojana. The initiative aims to boost water conservation, biodiversity, and citizen amenities.
Municipal Commissioner Animesh Parashar has instructed officials to identify land in every ward for the construction of public toilets, while also planning the development of water conservation ponds with Central funds. These ponds will serve both environmental and community purposes.
Samadar Park: A Model for Urban Transformation
The revival of Samadar Park in Kadamkuan (Ward 38) has emerged as a template for upcoming projects. Once a site marred by encroachment, it has now been transformed into a well-maintained, vibrant public space. The park, now illuminated with colorful lighting and systematic landscaping, has become a favorite gathering spot for residents and also hosts Chhath Puja celebrations.
Municipal officials state that the success of Samadar Park has encouraged plans to redevelop 73 other parks across Patna. These parks, currently under the Park Division since the last four years, are now being reclaimed by the PMC for direct management and overhaul.
PMC to Reclaim and Develop 73 Neglected Parks
Ward Councillor Dr. Ashish Sinha emphasized that the Municipal Corporation is fully capable of maintaining and improving these public spaces. “A survey is already underway. The corporation’s direct involvement will ensure better planning, quicker execution, and sustainable maintenance,” he said.
Several parks in city colonies and localities are reportedly in poor condition, suffering from neglect, lack of infrastructure, and safety concerns. The PMC’s move is expected to enhance the city’s green cover, promote recreational activities, and improve the overall quality of life.
