Patna: Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas (LJP-R) chief Chirag Paswan has reiterated his commitment to Bihar politics, signaling a shift away from central responsibilities. Speaking at a news channel event in New Delhi, Chirag stated that his political priority remains Bihar, and he intends to return fully to state politics in the coming years. However, he ruled out contesting the upcoming 2025 Bihar assembly elections, stating that his role in the state’s leadership would unfold over time.

“My father, the late Ram Vilas Paswan, was deeply involved in central politics, but my focus is Bihar,” he said. “I don’t want to remain in the Centre for long—my state is calling me.” He made it clear that while he will not be contesting the 2025 elections, he intends to stand in the 2030 assembly polls, reinforcing his long-term commitment to Bihar’s political landscape.

On the speculation surrounding Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s health, Chirag criticized the opposition for turning it into a political issue. “Instead of focusing on policies, opposition leaders are resorting to personal attacks. This kind of discourse is not right,” he remarked, adding that political debate should remain issue-based rather than veering into personal allegations.

Chirag also addressed his relationships with key political figures in Bihar, describing poll strategist Prashant Kishor as a “friend” and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav as “brothers.” However, he maintained that political differences with Tejashwi have existed since the beginning of his political career. Speaking about Kishor’s future in politics, he said, “Let him take off first; then we’ll see whether the flight lands safely or not.”

With Bihar’s political dynamics evolving ahead of the assembly elections, Chirag’s reaffirmation of his Bihar-first approach sets the stage for his eventual return to state politics, even as he continues to navigate his current role in the central government.
