Patna: In a bid to strengthen security arrangements across Patna, a comprehensive security audit of 36 critical institutions—including the Patna High Court, Patna Airport, Vidhan Mandal, PMCH, AIIMS, major private hospitals, NTPC, and Sipara oil depot—has been ordered by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
The decision was taken during a crime review meeting chaired by the SSP late Saturday night. Law and Order SP Sanjay Kumar has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the audit with support from local police stations or designated officers.
“The goal is to assess existing security measures at each location and identify gaps that need immediate attention,” said a senior police official. The SP has been instructed to visit each site, evaluate the security infrastructure, and submit a detailed report within a week.
Officers from across the district, including all SPs, SDPOs, and Thanedars, participated in the meeting. Many officers posted outside Patna joined virtually. The SSP sought case-by-case updates from each police station in the city, particularly emphasizing the need for swift investigations under new legal provisions.
Focus on POCSO and SC-ST Act Cases
A significant directive issued during the meeting concerned cases registered under the POCSO Act. The SSP reminded all officers that under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), investigations in such cases must be completed within seven days, and a chargesheet or final report must be filed in court within a week. Strict action will be taken against any SHO or Investigating Officer (IO) failing to meet this deadline.
In addition, police officers have been instructed to speed up investigations under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, resolve long-pending cases, and ensure the arrest of absconding accused persons. The SSP also directed that attachment warrants be obtained from courts to act against fugitives.
Increased Patrolling Ordered
Further, all police stations have been directed to increase patrolling in their respective areas to deter criminal activity and improve public safety.
