Darbhanga: The Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar, on Wednesday announced a major development package for Darbhanga district, inaugurating and laying foundation stones for 90 schemes worth Rs 138 crore during his Samridhi Yatra.

Reviewing ongoing projects, CM inspected the under-construction inter-state and international bus terminal at Delhi Mod in Darbhanga city. Officials said the redeveloped bus stand would include a G+4 office building, concourse, multiple platforms, a maintenance depot, parking facilities, footpaths, toilet blocks, a 700-kilolitre sewage treatment plant, boundary and campus development, and lighting. The project is expected to be completed within two years.

The chief minister was briefed on the progress of projects announced during earlier review yatras, with officials reporting rapid implementation. Key works underway include a rail overbridge near Donar Chowk, the Shobhan Dam–Makiya road, a four-lane access road to the proposed AIIMS on the Shobhan bypass, widening of the Shobhan–Ekmi road, and a bypass connecting the Darbhanga–Kusheshwarsthan road to Dhabhauliya. Modernisation and conservation work at the Mithila Research Institute is also in progress.

Additional projects include the construction of an elevated corridor linking Darbhanga railway station with the Amas–Darbhanga expressway via key city junctions, beautification of Baba Kusheshwarsthan and Ahilyasthan, land acquisition for Ahilyasthan’s development, and the integrated rejuvenation of Ganga Sagar, Harahi and Dighdi ponds.

He directed officials to ensure timely and efficient completion of the works, saying they would significantly boost connectivity and public facilities in the district. He also inspected the under-construction civil enclave near Darbhanga airport and reviewed plans for a 50-acre logistics park and cargo hub in Darbhanga Sadar block.

Inspecting the Amas–Darbhanga road project, the chief minister was told the corridor would link two major economic highways, NH-02 and NH-57 (new NH-27), improving connectivity between Bihar’s interior regions and West Bengal, Jharkhand and the north-eastern states. CM Nitish described the project as critical for industry, investment, small businesses, and tourism, and asked officials to adhere strictly to timelines.

At Nagendra Jha Stadium on the campus of Lalit Narayan Mithila University, he visited departmental stalls and distributed symbolic cheques. These included Rs311.79 crore in bank-linked credit assistance to 23,384 Jeevika self-help groups, benefiting more than 93,000 women members. Beneficiaries of the Nari Shakti Yojana, inter-caste marriage incentives, schemes supporting the marriages of persons with disabilities, and recipients of battery-operated tricycles also received assistance.

From the venue, the chief minister remotely laid foundation stones for 50 schemes worth Rs105 crore and inaugurated 40 schemes worth Rs33 crore.
