Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar will felicitate the Indian men’s hockey team, which clinched the 2025 Asia Cup title in Rajgir, at a ceremony at his residence Today.
Each player is set to receive Rs 10 lakh, while the head coach, assistant coaches and support staff will be awarded Rs 5 lakh each, along with certificates of appreciation. The event will also see the team publicly recognised by the state government for their achievement.
India defeated South Korea 4–1 in the final of the Hero Asia Cup 2025 to lift the trophy and secure qualification for the 2026 World Hockey Tournament. The victory came in Rajgir, where the competition was hosted for the first time at the newly built international hockey stadium in the city’s sports complex.
The tournament, held between August 29 and September 7, featured teams from India, China, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia and South Korea. Pakistan and Oman were absent from this edition, with Bangladesh and Kazakhstan included in their place.
The Nitish Kumar government has described the event as a landmark moment for Bihar, with arrangements, facilities and security at the venue drawing praise. It was the first time the state had hosted an international hockey tournament of this scale.
