Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday said that the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) is transforming into a world-class healthcare facility, featuring an impressive 5462 beds. The CM made the statement during his address at the 29th annual conference of the Bihar chapter of the Cardiological Society of India in Patna, which saw the participation of cardiologists from various states across the country.
Chief Minister (CM) Nitish lauded PMCH’s exceptional reputation and acknowledged the remarkable contributions of its alumni in the medical field, both within India and on the global stage.
In his address, the CM emphasized the significant advancements made in healthcare in Bihar, especially in the treatment of heart diseases. He reminisced about a time when government hospitals served only a fraction of the patients, highlighting the current scenario where quality healthcare services are accessible even at the block level.
CM Nitish underscored the state’s commitment to the growth of medical colleges and hospitals, noting an increase from 6 to 13. He cited multiple ongoing hospital expansion projects, including the addition of 2,500 beds each at I.G.I.M.S., Patna, N.M.C.H., Patna, and SKMCH, Muzaffarpur. Rajvanshi Nagar Hospital’s transformation into the specialized Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital for orthopaedic treatments was another significant achievement. The establishment of a dedicated eye hospital at Rajendra Nagar Hospital and the New Gardiner Hospital’s designation for diabetes care were further examples of the state’s healthcare commitment.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to providing healthcare to the underprivileged, highlighting the provision of free treatment to patients at IGIMS.
CM Nitish also recalled the significant improvements at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (IGIC) during his time as an MP. He assured that any shortcomings in healthcare delivery would continue to be addressed by the government.
Closing his address, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the medical community for their invitation, reaffirming the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the public.
