Patna: The Congress party has commenced its election preparations for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections by unilaterally releasing the first batch of 11 candidates, even as the crucial seat-sharing agreement among the parties of the Grand Alliance remains under negotiation.
The move, announced primarily through the party’s social media channels, confirms the names of 11 nominees who have also been issued their official party symbols. Leading the list is Bihar State President Rajesh Ram, who will be the party’s candidate from the Kutumba constituency.

The candidates were greenlit following a meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) in Delhi. Following the approval, Congress state in-charge Krishna Allavaru, state president Rajesh Ram, and legislative party leader Shakeel Ahmed returned to Patna on Wednesday evening and immediately began the process of distributing symbols to the confirmed candidates.
This early, assertive step by the Congress places pressure on the remaining allies within the Grand Alliance—which includes the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), CPI(ML), CPM, and CPI—to expedite their own selection and finalize the alliance’s overall allocation.
