Patna: The two-day Construction Conclave Workshop, focused on exploring advanced practices in steel and construction, was jointly inaugurated by Prof. T. N. Singh, Director of IIT Patna; Dr. Anup K. Kesari, Dean of R&D; Dr. Vaibhav Singhal, Workshop Convenor; Dr. Amit K. Verma, Head of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at IIT Patna; Amit Pandey, Head of Sales for the East Region at Tata Steel Limited; Nitin Kishorepuria, Managing Director of BMW Ventures Limited; and Dr. Sourav Gur, Workshop Co-Convenor.
The workshop opened its doors to industry leaders, academic experts, and emerging professionals on October 18-19, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the discourse surrounding modern construction practices. The event commenced with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony and a soulful rendition of the Saraswati Vandana. Attendees also paid tribute to the legacy of the late Ratan Tata with a moment of silence, honoring his impactful contributions to the industry.
Organized in collaboration with Tata Steel Limited and BMW Ventures Limited, the workshop features a comprehensive agenda that includes technical sessions and hands-on demonstrations covering pivotal topics such as Seismic-Resistant Design, Geotechnical Investigation, and Dynamic Analysis of multi-storied reinforced concrete Buildings.
In his inaugural address, Prof. T. N. Singh highlighted the critical role of steel consumption as an indicator of societal and economic development. He advocated for the adoption of advanced materials, particularly high-strength and corrosion-resistant reinforcing steel, to address contemporary challenges in construction. “This workshop serves as an invaluable platform for learning and collaboration,” stated Prof. Singh. “By focusing on quantifying quality, we can drive meaningful changes in our field.”
Participants will have the unique opportunity to tour IIT Patna’s state-of-the-art laboratories, witnessing live demonstrations of rebar testing and structural performance assessments. This practical component promises to provide attendees with insights into the latest innovations and testing techniques in the industry. The Construction Conclave Workshop stands as a remarkable platform for dialogue and the exchange of ideas, paving the way for advancements in the construction sector and enriching the professional journey of all participants.
