Patna: As the monsoon season looms, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo) are ramping up their preparations, implementing a rigorous schedule of daily inspections and even a midnight mock drill to ensure the city is ready for the rains.
Patna Municipal Commissioner Animesh Parashar has issued clear directives to all officers: from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM every morning, they must inspect their zones, focusing particularly on areas with drainage obstructions. This thorough check will cover crucial aspects like broken roads, damaged manhole covers, general cleanliness, and efficient garbage collection. To maintain transparency and real-time oversight, officers are required to share geo-tagged pictures of their inspection sites on the official Patna Municipal Corporation WhatsApp group.
Beyond the daily patrols, the Municipal Commissioner will conduct review meetings at 12:00 PM every day with inspecting officers. These sessions will provide an opportunity to discuss detailed site observations and collaboratively devise solutions for drainage issues. All Executive Officers and Executive Engineers have been instructed to spend three hours daily touring their wards, with all preparations slated for completion by June 15.
Midnight Mock Drill to Test Readiness
In a critical test of emergency preparedness, a mock drill is scheduled for Sunday at 12:00 midnight near the Eco Park Samp House. This exercise will involve employees from both the Patna Municipal Corporation and BUIDCo, who will present their reports on the status of inlet-outlet pumps and ground-level problems at the ward level.
The drill will see the presence of all sanitation inspectors, zonal officers, nodal officers, chief sanitation inspectors, and other officials from both the corporation and BUIDCo, highlighting the comprehensive approach being taken to ensure Patna’s readiness for the upcoming monsoon.
