Patna: Thieves have stolen gold and silver jewellery valued at around Rs 15 lakh from the home of an Air Force family in Danapur, Patna district, after breaking in through the roof while the house was unoccupied.
The burglary took place in the Shahpur police station area on Sunday night. The owner, Dheeraj Kumar, said the house had been locked as he had travelled to Delhi on September 5 after his father, who suffers from heart disease, fell seriously ill. His pregnant wife was staying with her parents at the time.
According to Kumar, the thieves gained entry by climbing onto the roof and breaking open cupboards inside the house. Items stolen included three mangalsutras, two gold necklaces, three chains and two sets of earrings belonging to his wife and sister-in-law.
Police officials said they reached the scene soon after receiving the complaint. Manish Kumar Anand, the station house officer of Shahpur, said CCTV footage from the area is being examined and expressed confidence that arrests will follow shortly.
