Darbhanga: Four members of a family, including three children, were allegedly killed by the head of the household in Bihar’s Darbhanga district early Tuesday morning, police said.
The incident took place in Chandanpatti village under the jurisdiction of the Pataur Police Station area. According to officials and local residents, the accused allegedly attacked his wife and children following a domestic dispute inside their rented accommodation.
The deceased have been identified as Phool Kumari Das, 30, and her three children — Hriday Das, 7, Sandhya Das, 6, and Son Das, 5. The family was reportedly originally from the Dalkhola area of West Bengal and had been living in Darbhanga for work.
Accused Undergoing Treatment
Police said the accused, identified as Sandeep Das alias Biltu Das, allegedly injured himself after the attack. He was admitted to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Initial reports suggest the family worked at a poultry farm in Chandanpatti as labourers. Investigators suspect the incident may have stemmed from a domestic altercation, though the exact circumstances are yet to be established.
Relatives and Workers Describe Incident
Mangu Das, identified as the maternal uncle of the deceased children, alleged that an argument broke out between the husband and wife in the early hours of the morning. He claimed the accused then attacked the victims using sticks, iron rods and other objects before attempting to harm himself.
Sunita Das, a worker at the poultry farm, said labourers nearby were occupied with routine work when they heard commotion from the family’s room.
According to her account, one of the children alerted nearby workers, who rushed to the spot and found all four victims critically injured. The accused was also found with a head injury.
All the injured were taken to hospital, where the woman and children were declared dead, according to local sources.
Police and FSL Team at Scene
Personnel from the Pataur Police Station and APM police stations reached the spot soon after the incident. Senior officers, including the City SP and Sadar SDPO, also visited the scene to supervise the investigation.
An Forensic Science Laboratory team examined the crime scene and collected evidence.
Police said further investigation is underway and statements from witnesses and family members are being recorded.
