Darbhanga: A shocking incident has come to light in Darbhanga, Bihar, where the body of a local businessman was found in pieces on the Darbhanga–Muzaffarpur four-lane road. The deceased has been identified as Manish Gupta, a gold merchant who owned a jewellery shop at Darbhanga Tower. His remains were discovered near Sundarpur in Ranipur by locals, who immediately informed the police.
Police officers reached the spot and confirmed the identity of the victim. While they initially suspected it to be a case of a hit-and-run, Gupta’s family strongly disagreed. His brother, Amarnath Gupta, alleged that this was a planned murder. He said there were no bloodstains on the road and that Manish’s motorcycle was missing. He claimed his brother had been killed elsewhere, and his body was thrown onto the highway to make it appear as an accident.
The gruesome discovery caused anger and fear among traders and villagers in the area. Soon after the news spread, local residents and shopkeepers blocked NH-27 in protest. They raised slogans against the administration and demanded justice, calling the incident a conspiracy rather than an accident. Tension prevailed for hours until senior officials, including Sadar SDM Vikas Kumar and SDPO Rajiv Kumar, arrived at the scene. They assured the public that the case would be fully investigated, after which the blockade was lifted.
The police have sent the body to Darbhanga Medical College for post-mortem. Officials say the report will reveal whether the death was caused by an accident or by murder. SDPO Rajiv Kumar said the police are investigating both angles and will also review CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Investigators are examining Gupta’s business connections to find out if there was any rivalry or dispute that could have led to the crime.
For now, the shocking death of Manish Gupta has left Darbhanga shaken. While police have not ruled out murder, his family and local traders remain convinced that the businessman was killed in a planned attack. The community awaits answers as the investigation continues.
