Patna: A yellow alert for dense fog has been issued in 10 districts of Bihar today, while the weather is expected to remain normal in the remaining 28 districts, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Cold conditions are likely to persist across the state until February 15, after which temperatures are expected to gradually return to normal.

Cloudy skies are forecast for several districts on February 5 and 6, with a slight increase in cold expected thereafter. The IMD has warned that a western disturbance arriving on February 3 will be more intense than previous systems, bringing snowfall to mountainous regions and rainfall to the plains. The passage of this system after February 6 is likely to bring cold winds into north Bihar, leading to a drop in minimum temperatures, making nights colder, though no cold-day conditions are expected.

Meteorologist SK Patel noted that Bihar has experienced a milder winter this year compared to last year, primarily due to weaker western disturbances. “This year, the minimum temperature in any district has not dropped to 3–4°C, and instances of cold waves and cold days have been rare,” he said. He explained that cold weather typically follows a 15-day cycle, with severe conditions in January and February. However, rainfall during this period can help clear fog and bring relief through sunshine.

According to IMD data, Khagaria recorded the highest average maximum temperature in January at 23.7°C, while Dehri in Rohtas saw the lowest minimum temperature at 4.4°C. Triveniganj (Valmikinagar) recorded the highest rainfall in the state, with 1.6mm.
