Patna: District Magistrate of Patna, Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, conducted a comprehensive inspection of ongoing construction works and public facilities in the district on December 18. Accompanied by Chairman of Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited, Shirshat Kapil Ashok, and other senior officials, Dr. Singh visited several key locations, including Gandhi Maidan, Kargil Chowk, and the Metro construction site on Ashoka Rajpath. The inspection aimed to review the progress of significant public welfare and infrastructure projects.

During the two-hour inspection, Dr. Singh closely monitored the progress of the 2-lane double-decker elevated corridor being constructed by the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited. The project, stretching 2.2 kilometers from Kargil Chowk to Patna Science College via PMCH, is progressing well, with 93% of the foundation work, 83% of the sub-structure, and 53% of the superstructure completed. Dr. Singh noted that the remaining work is progressing swiftly. He was briefed by officials regarding some construction challenges, including issues related to the alignment of service roads and encroachments, which are being addressed in collaboration with relevant authorities.

Dr. Singh also discussed the coordination between different agencies involved in construction, including Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited, which is working on the Metro route parallel to the double-decker flyover. He directed the Metro officials to adjust their barricades to allow for smoother construction of the flyover. Additionally, the District Magistrate instructed that any issues arising from overlapping construction zones between the Metro and Bridge Construction Corporation be resolved promptly.

Further addressing the issue of encroachments along the project’s path, the District Magistrate informed that 51 shops situated along the service road of the double-decker flyover will be relocated. Notices have been issued to shop owners, with a deadline set for the demolition of existing structures by Saturday of the same week. Dr. Singh stressed the importance of coordinating these efforts to avoid delays in the project’s timeline.

On the ongoing Patna Metro Rail Project, Dr. Singh highlighted the progress being made in the construction of six underground stations, including those at Akashvani, Gandhi Maidan, and PMCH. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and mentioned that all major obstacles, including land acquisition and transfer issues, have been resolved. The District Magistrate also emphasized the importance of ensuring safety standards and pollution control measures during construction, directing all officials to maintain vigilance over the process.

Dr. Singh concluded the inspection by reaffirming the district administration’s commitment to enhancing public facilities in Patna. He noted that the completed Metro system, expected to open in 2025, will provide much-needed relief from traffic congestion, improve public transport, and ease commuting for citizens, especially students, professionals, and medical personnel. The District Magistrate assured the public that the ongoing efforts will continue to be monitored closely to ensure timely and efficient completion of all development projects.

The Patna High Court has pulled up Bihar Police over poor enforcement of noise pollution rules, questioning why loudspeakers, modified bike silencers, and marriage halls continue to violate the law.
