Lakhisarai/Patna: Two local public representatives were shot dead in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district late on Tuesday night, triggering panic and outrage in the area. The victims, both named Chandan Kumar, were returning from a feast when they were ambushed by unidentified assailants near Hanuman Gali in Olipur Ramchandrapur village, under Pipariya police station limits.
One of the deceased, Chandan Kumar, was the elected Mukhiya of Olipur village and the son of Anil Singh. The other, also Chandan Kumar, was a Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS) member and the son of Arvind Kumar Singh. Both were reportedly gunned down in a hail of bullets by attackers who had been lying in wait.
The incident took place as the men returned from a shraddha feast held in memory of a local social worker. Eyewitnesses said they heard multiple gunshots and rushed to the scene, only to find the victims critically wounded. The assailants fled before help could arrive.
Both victims were taken to Lakhisarai Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. According to family members, the Mukhiya died on the spot after sustaining multiple bullet wounds, while the PACS member succumbed to his injuries en route to hospital.
Shivam Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Lakhisarai, said, “As soon as I got the information about the incident, I reached the Sadar Hospital, but both had already died. An investigation is underway and action will be taken against whoever is found guilty. The culprits will be arrested and sent to jail.”
The motive behind the murders remains unclear, and police have yet to identify the suspects. Senior officers, including the SDPO, have launched a probe and are examining all possible angles, including personal enmity and political rivalry.
