Patna, 17 June 2025: The southwest monsoon officially entered Bihar on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching heat across several regions. According to the Meteorological Center, the monsoon made its way into the eastern parts of the state and is expected to cover the entire state within the next 48 hours.

Officials from the Met department have stated that this year’s rainfall is likely to be 11% higher than normal, raising hopes for improved agricultural prospects in the region.

A rain alert has been issued for all 38 districts of Bihar for Wednesday, with heavy rain and lightning warnings in 21 districts. A yellow alert has also been issued for 17 districts, which are expected to experience cloudy skies, moderate rain in isolated areas, and wind speeds reaching 50 to 60 km/h.

Relief from Heat as Monsoon Showers Begin

The arrival of the monsoon brought widespread rainfall in multiple districts, including Aurangabad, Kishanganj, Katihar, Rohtas, Nalanda, Bhojpur, Banka, Bhagalpur, Siwan, Buxar, Munger, and Lakhisarai. In Ekma (Chhapra district), the change in weather conditions on Tuesday provided much-needed respite to residents struggling with intense heat.

The drop in temperatures was noticeable across many districts. Rohtas, which had earlier recorded temperatures above 41°C, saw a dip of 3.5°C, bringing it down to 38.8°C. Patna recorded 38°C, Gaya 35.6°C, and Banka saw the lowest temperature at 31.5°C.

Full Monsoon Activity Expected by June 26

According to the latest forecast, monsoon activity is expected to cover all of Bihar by June 26. On Wednesday, 28 districts including Patna are expected to remain cloudy with a likelihood of light to moderate rainfall, offering continued relief from high temperatures.

Monsoon Trend Over the Years

Data shows that Bihar has witnessed above-normal rainfall only four times in the last 24 years—in 2003, 2007, 2019, and 2020. Notably, 2019 recorded 34% excess rainfall, the highest in recent decades.

Authorities have advised residents to stay alert amid the rain and wind warnings, especially in districts marked for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Disaster response teams and local administrations are monitoring the situation closely.
