Eastern Railway will run two summer special trains between New Delhi–Bhagalpur and Howrah–New Jalpaiguri, offering over 30,000 extra berths to manage peak season travel demand.

Kolkata/Patna: In a move aimed at easing summer travel for passengers, Eastern Railway has announced two special train services that will operate between New Delhi–Bhagalpur and Howrah–New Jalpaiguri, providing over 30,000 additional berths during the peak holiday season.

According to a notification issued by Kaushik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer of Eastern Railway, the trains will run on select dates from May to July, helping to manage the seasonal rush and offer travellers more convenient options.

New Jalpaiguri–Howrah Summer Special (03040) will depart from New Jalpaiguri at 12.45pm on May 10 and reach Howrah at 12.10am the following day. It will halt at key stations including Bandel, Nabadwip Dham, Katwa, Azimganj, Jangipur Road, Malda Town, Barsoi, Kishanganj, and Aluabari Road. The train will offer general, second class, sleeper, and air-conditioned accommodations.

New Delhi–Bhagalpur Summer Special (04068) will run every Sunday and Wednesday from May 11 to July 9, departing New Delhi at 2pm and arriving in Bhagalpur at 1.30pm the next day, completing 18 round trips during the period.

In the reverse direction, Bhagalpur–New Delhi Summer Special (04067) will depart every Monday and Thursday from May 12 to July 10 at 2.30pm, reaching New Delhi at the same time the following day. This service will also run for 18 trips.

Both trains will stop at 15 stations en route, including Sultanganj, Jamalpur and Abhaypur, and offer general and sleeper class facilities. Booking dates for these services will be announced shortly.

Speaking on the decision, Mitra said: The decision to start these summer special trains has been taken to reduce the extra rush of passengers and ensure smooth and convenient travel. By offering additional train services, Eastern Railway aims to ensure that passengers have adequate transport facilities, thereby improving their travel experience.”
