ECI to Launch ‘ECINET’ App with 40+ Features Ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections

Patna: Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the launch of ECINET, a unified digital platform designed to streamline the electoral process for voters, officials, and political parties. The app will offer over 40 integrated mobile and web-based services, eliminating the need for users to download multiple apps or remember separate logins.
The ECINET platform will feature an intuitive user interface (UI) and simplified user experience (UX), making election-related information and services easily accessible on desktops and smartphones.
Initiative by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar
The concept of ECINET was presented by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during the Chief Electoral Officers’ Conference in March 2025. The conference was also attended by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. The platform aims to enhance transparency, accessibility, and efficiency in electoral operations.
Authenticated Data Entry by Election Officials
Only authorized election officers will be allowed to input data into ECINET, ensuring the authenticity and reliability of the information. In the event of any legal dispute, only the primary data recorded in official forms will be considered valid.
Wide Reach Across the Electoral Ecosystem
Once launched, ECINET is expected to benefit:
- 100 crore voters
- 10.5 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs)
- 15 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties
- 45 lakh polling personnel
- 15,597 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs)
- 4,123 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs)
- 767 District Electoral Officers (DEOs)
Strong Legal and Cybersecurity Framework
The Election Commission plans to test ECINET extensively across different user categories to ensure optimal performance, ease of use, and cybersecurity. The information shared through ECINET will be legally protected under key laws including:
- Representation of the People Act, 1950 and 1951
- Electoral Registration Rules, 1960
- Election Conduct Rules, 1961
- Official ECI guidelines issued from time to time
With its comprehensive features and legal backing, ECINET is expected to revolutionize electoral management in India, making it more efficient and citizen-friendly in the digital era.
