Patna: The Drug Control Administration has busted a fake medicine manufacturing unit operating out of a private house in the Ramkrishna Nagar police station area of Patna. During the raid, officials seized spurious medicines, wrappers, labels of reputed pharmaceutical companies and drug-making machines worth nearly ₹8 lakh.
According to officials, Sunil Kumar Jha is the main accused and the owner of the illegal factory. An FIR has been registered against him and the premises have been sealed.
Fake Syrups and Creams Being Manufactured
Drug Inspector Jitendra Kumar said the illegal unit was being run under the name “Vibha Biotech.” The factory was producing fake medicines for gas, cough syrup, pain relief, fever and skin-related ailments. Among the seized items were spurious versions of popular products such as Liv 52 syrup, Ibugesic Plus syrup and Cosglo New cream.
Agencies and Pharma Firms Under Scanner
Around half a dozen drug agencies and pharmaceutical companies have also come under the scanner in connection with the racket. Investigators found that Sunil had engaged hundreds of people to handle marketing, supply and order collection, especially in rural districts.
Supply Across Several Bihar Districts
The Drug Inspector said the network was mainly active in rural areas of Bihar, where patients were misled with cheap medicines. The fake drugs were being supplied not only in Patna but also in Purnia, Madhepura, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Gopalganj, Saharsa and Siwan. Officials said the racket posed a serious threat to public health.
Search On for Other Accused
The raid revealed that the network had been operating for a long time and many people were earning profits from the illegal trade. Police and drug control officials are now searching for other suspects to expose the entire network.
Calling the operation a success, Drug Inspector Jitendra Kumar said more raids will be conducted against those linked to the racket. The administration has assured strict action and said it will keep a close watch on the fake drug trade to ensure tough punishment for the guilty.
