Patna: A fake website impersonating the MSME Technology Center, Patna, has come under investigation after officials alleged that cyber criminals copied content, logos and other details from the official government portal to deceive job seekers. A case has been registered at the Patna Cyber Police Station following a complaint by Sanjay Kumar, Deputy General Manager of the MSME Technology Center, Bihta.
According to the complaint, the fraudulent website closely resembled the official MSME Technology Center portal by reproducing its logo, layout and content without authorisation. Officials said the imitation was designed to appear authentic and gain the trust of users.
Fake Contact And Career Details
The complaint states that while the fake website displayed the official address of the MSME Technology Center, Patna in its contact section, it replaced the genuine mobile number and email ID with fraudulent details.
Officials also found that the website listed the addresses of MSME DFO offices in Patna and Muzaffarpur under its career section, allegedly to reinforce the impression that it was an official government recruitment portal.
Concerns Over Data Theft
Deputy General Manager Sanjay Kumar told the police that the website appeared to be collecting personal and sensitive information from job applicants, including identity documents, bank details and other records.
He expressed concern that the information could be misused for identity theft, financial fraud and other forms of cybercrime.
Police Investigation Underway
Following the complaint, Patna Cyber Police registered an FIR and began an investigation into the matter. The MSME administration has requested the police to block the fake website at the earliest and take legal action against those responsible.
Officials have also urged members of the public, particularly job seekers, to verify recruitment announcements and website addresses through official government sources before sharing personal or financial information.
