Samastipur: Fifteen days after the tragic death of AI engineer Atul Subhash and the subsequent arrest of his wife Nikita Singhania, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law, the whereabouts of his four-year-old son remain unknown. Pawan Modi, Atul’s grieving father, has filed an FIR at Vaini police station, desperate to find his grandson and secure his custody.
“My grandson is four years old, but I have never held him in my lap. I have only seen him once on a video call. If I can hug him even once, my heart will find some relief. After all, where is my grandson? If he is not found, I will be forced to end my life” said Modi, expressing anguish over the child’s disappearance.
FIR Transferred to Jaunpur Police
Following Modi’s application, Vaini police registered a preliminary FIR before transferring the case to the police in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, where the child and his mother were reportedly residing. Anand Shankar Gaurav, Station House Officer (SHO) of Vaini police station, explained, “The case pertains to Jaunpur, and further action will be taken by the authorities there.”
The Modi family remains deeply concerned about the child’s safety. “No four-year-old child is kept in a boarding school, and if he has been, we should be informed of his whereabouts. My grandson is not in safe hands. I fear for his life. Custody should be given to us so that we can raise him to be another Atul Subhash,” said Pawan Modi.
Family Appeals for Justice and Legal Reform
The case has also highlighted broader concerns about misuse of dowry harassment laws. Atul’s younger brother, Vikas Modi, revealed that the family has petitioned the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister, and the President for justice. “Fifteen days have passed, and my nephew is still missing. We are pursuing a legal battle and hope that justice will prevail,” he said.
Vikas also urged the Prime Minister to enact stricter laws against the misuse of legal provisions, such as those related to dowry harassment, to prevent similar tragedies. “No other Atul Subhash should have to end his life because of such situations,” he added.
Allegations of Negligence and Demand for Security
The family has raised concerns about the lack of security provided to them despite repeated requests to local authorities. “We submitted an application five days ago, and only today was a zero FIR registered. Even our plea for security has gone unanswered,” Vikas Modi said.
A Tragic Loss and a Father’s Plea
Atul Subhash’s death has left his family shattered, with his father recalling his son’s devastating last words: “If I do not get justice, throw my ashes in the gutter.” Pawan Modi, however, remains resolute. “We will not let his memory be disrespected. We demand justice and hope to reunite with our grandson to bring some solace to this unbearable pain,” he said.
As the investigation progresses, the Modi family continues to fight for justice, grappling with the uncertainty of their grandson’s fate while mourning the loss of their son.
