Father Wins Rs 10 Lakh Insurance After Son’s Death, Thanks to Bihar’s Grievance Law

A father in Bihar finally got Rs 10 lakh insurance for his son’s death after using the state’s Public Grievance Redressal Act

Patna: A father in Patna has received Rs 10 lakh insurance money after his son’s death, thanks to Bihar’s Right to Public Grievance Redressal Act. Kameshwar Prasad Arya, who lives in Anisabad, lost his son Prabhat Shankar in a railway accident on 14 August 2023. Prabhat was working as a Panchayat Rozgar Sevak in Bakhtiyarpur block when he died while going to work.

Kameshwar Prasad had submitted his insurance claim on time, but there was no response for months. Feeling helpless, he approached the Public Grievance Redressal Office for help. Under this Act, complaints must be resolved within 60 working days. When the officer heard his case, they asked the Bihar Rural Development Society (BRDS) and HDFC Bank to act quickly.

Finally, after the hearing, HDFC Bank released the insurance payment of Rs 10 lakh to Prabhat’s family. This gave Kameshwar Prasad not only financial support but also hope that ordinary people can get justice through this system.

Bihar’s Public Grievance Redressal Act was launched on 5 June 2016 and has helped more than 17 lakh people so far. People can file complaints easily from home using the online portal or the Jan Samadhan app without going to the office.
