Patna: The Arts and Crafts College hosted lectures by renowned filmmaker Pankaj Parashar and art historian Rahul Dev on Monday. Principal Dr. Ajay Kumar Pandey welcomed the distinguished guests with ceremonial shawls, setting a tone of appreciation for their contributions to the fields of filmmaking and art history.
Rahul Dev, from the National Museum Institute in Delhi, delivered an insightful lecture on the influence of major art exhibitions on the history of global art. He highlighted the Document exhibition in Kassel, Germany, as a pivotal event held every five years that holds significant respect among artists and historians. Dev contrasted this with the Venice Biennale in Italy, noting that while Document is highly esteemed in academic circles, it is less oriented towards the commercial aspects of the art market.
In a separate session, Pankaj Parashar discussed the multifaceted nature of filmmaking, sharing valuable experiences from his career. He elaborated on the creative process behind his films and his involvement in painting, offering students a behind-the-scenes look at the art of cinema.
The lectures were attended by notable figures including photographer Suman Kumar, Vishal Verma, Dr. Rakhi Kumari, Mazhar Ilahi, and Shashi Ranjan Prakash, among other students. The event provided a rich exchange of ideas and insights, enhancing the academic environment of the college.
