Sports Authority of India-led event promotes fitness, sustainable transport and healthy living under the Fit India Movement

Patna: More than 1,000 cyclists, athletes, fitness enthusiasts and volunteers participated in a special edition of the “Fit India Sunday on Cycle” programme in Patna to mark World Bicycle Day 2026.

The event was organised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Sports Training Centre (STC), Patna, in collaboration with the Bihar government and several partner organisations as part of the nationwide Fit India Movement.

The initiative aimed to promote physical fitness, environmental sustainability and healthy lifestyle habits through cycling.

Rally Draws Wide Participation

Participants included athletes, youth volunteers, officials, members of the armed and paramilitary forces, representatives of public sector undertakings and civil society organisations.

The cycling rally began at Income Tax Golambar, proceeded towards Patna Zoo and returned to its starting point, covering a distance of approximately 10 kilometres.

Organisers said participants completed the ride with enthusiasm, highlighting growing public interest in cycling as a fitness and recreational activity.

Support From Multiple Organisations

The programme was conducted with support from a wide range of organisations, including Decathlon Patna, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, NDRF, RPF, NCC Patna, ESIC Regional Office Patna, Bihar Olympic Association, Bihar Cycling Association, Bihar Yogasana Association, Bihar Sepak Takraw Association, Bihar Gymnastics Association, PEFI Bihar Chapter, Kreeda Bharati, the CA Association of India (Patna Chapter), Patanjali Wellness Centre, Team CISRO and My Bharat.

Organisers said the broad participation reflected increasing collaboration among sports bodies, government agencies and community groups in promoting fitness-related initiatives.

Cycling Encouraged As Weekly Fitness Activity

The event was attended by Patna Sahib MLA Ratnesh Kushwaha as chief guest.

Addressing participants, Kushwaha encouraged citizens to adopt cycling as a regular fitness activity and suggested dedicating at least one day each week to cycling.

He said cycling contributes not only to physical well-being but also to environmental conservation by promoting sustainable modes of transport.

Among those present were Ajay Kumar, president of the Bihar Olympic Association; Niranjan Kumar, Regional Director of ESIC Patna; Kaushal Kumar, secretary of the Bihar Cycling Association; and NCC officers Col. Prakash Singh and Col. Ram.

Part Of Ongoing Fit India Campaign

Someswar Rao, Centre In-Charge of SAI STC Patna, said the “Sunday on Cycle” programme is being organised regularly at different locations to encourage citizens to adopt active and healthy lifestyles.

He noted that the initiative seeks to motivate people of all age groups to remain physically active and make cycling a part of their daily routine.

The programme concluded with participants and organisers reaffirming their commitment to promoting fitness, active living and environmental awareness through the Fit India Movement.
