Patna: Bihar’s Road Construction Minister and Bankipur MLA, Nitin Nabin, laid the foundation stone for five new road projects in the state capital on Sunday, marking a significant step under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme. The total estimated cost of the projects across Wards 21, 22 and 23 is over Rs 2 crore.
Deputy Mayor Reshmi Chandravanshi, local ward councillors and senior officials from the executing agency, BUIDCo, were present at the event. During the ceremony, the minister also held discussions with local residents and addressed civic grievances, directing immediate action through the concerned departments.
“These projects, under the Mukhyamantri Shahri Samagra Vikas Yojana, aim to address longstanding urban issues such as poor road conditions and waterlogging,” Nabin told reporters. “The construction of these roads and drainage systems will provide a boost to urban development and ensure safer, smoother travel for residents.”
The five schemes include construction of underground drains and PCC (plain cement concrete) roads in key localities: from House No. 151F to 164F in Srikrishnapuri, E/124 to E/132 in Ward 21, Manorama Apartment to Late Chhotelal Singh’s residence in Ward 22, Kitab Bhawan Gali to Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, and from Hazari Utsav Hall to HP Gas Office in Ward 23.
The Chief Minister’s urban development initiative, rolled out in the 2024–25 fiscal year, focuses on improving infrastructure in densely populated urban areas, including connectivity with highways and major roads, particularly around schools, hospitals and tourist sites.
Minister Nabin noted that the roadworks would be accompanied by additional infrastructure upgrades, including underground cabling, street lighting and traffic dividers, aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving civic amenities.
Local councillors Shweta Ranjan (Ward 21), Anita Devi (Ward 22) and Kumari Sarika (Ward 23) were among those present, along with party workers and residents from the area.
