Patna : The Food Safety Department in Bihar has ramped up its crackdown on adulterated food ahead of Holi and Eid, conducting a series of raids across Patna. The operation has sparked panic among traders, particularly those dealing in sweets and dairy products.
Officials carried out inspections at multiple locations in the capital, collecting samples from various sweet shops and dairy farms. Several irregularities were uncovered, prompting further action from the department.
Concerns over hygiene and adulteration
A major raid took place in the Pirbahor police station area, where a dairy and a ghee shop at Adalat Ghat were inspected. Officials found significant lapses in hygiene and maintenance. Hundreds of plastic bags containing paneer—allegedly made using adulterated powder—were also discovered.
Food Inspector Mukesh Kumar Kashyap confirmed that samples of paneer, ghee, and cream had been collected for testing. “Many irregularities have been found at both locations. The shopkeepers have been asked for an explanation, and if they fail to provide a satisfactory response, their licenses could be cancelled,” he said.
Authorities on high alert
With Holi and Eid approaching, the state administration is on high alert, not just for law and order but also for food safety. The Food Safety Department is intensifying inspections, targeting sweet shops and dairy establishments known for producing paneer and ghee. Officials fear that counterfeit and substandard products may flood the market during the festive season, posing health risks to consumers
