Patna : Following in the footsteps of Shivdeep Lande, the political arena in Bihar is set to welcome another former top cop. Md. Nurul Hoda, a 1995-batch IPS officer and former Inspector General in the Railway Protection Force (RPF), has taken the plunge into politics by resigning from service. He is expected to join the Mukesh Sahni-led Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP) on Wednesday — but the big question remains: where will he contest from?
Party sources have confirmed Hoda’s induction and indicated that he may contest the upcoming assembly elections from a constituency in Sitamarhi district, his native region. The VIP has also reiterated its opposition to the Waqf Act, a position it says Hoda supports.
A Distinguished Career and Deep Local Roots
Born and raised in Sitamarhi, Nurul Hoda began his academic journey in his hometown before earning a degree in Chemistry from Bihar University and later an LLB from Delhi University. Known for his multilingual proficiency—including English, Urdu, Persian, and Arabic—he is also an avid runner, reportedly completing 10 kilometres daily. Committed to social causes, he runs a free modern education programme for over 300 children in his ancestral village.
From Policing to Public Service
Hoda held key positions in the RPF, including Senior Security Commissioner in Delhi, Deputy Inspector General at the Railway Board, and IG (Railways). During his tenure in Dhanbad and Asansol, he was credited with implementing effective strategies for curbing Naxalism and enhancing passenger safety. His innovative approaches to railway crime control earned him two Vishisht Seva Medals and two Director General Chakras.
